In this eBook, we’ll consider how you can stay ahead of the competition—because in the application economy, it’s vital to ensure the tools your organization uses are capable of positioning you at the forefront of industry—not just today, but tomorrow as well. We are heading toward a scenario where workload automation tools are capable of thinking for themselves and making decisions based on policy; this is what we at CA Technologies are calling intelligent automation. At the same time, however, more and more challenges are being presented as the increasingly fragmented places our workloads run begin to impact our analytics, reporting and processes. Challenge Enterprises today face the major challenge of how to fully orchestrate the apps that define their business and automate the IT processes underpinning them when much of the infrastructure used to run them is outsourced to cloud providers. Opportunity Some cloud service providers offer their own orchestration tools, and each on-premises tool has automation capabilities. But while we own our apps, providers are interchangeable depending on what they can offer and for what price. We should be able to switch between cloud providers and between cloud, on-premises and hybrid infrastructure as and when the business requires, with minimal effort and without losing any control. Sometimes we might want to use more than one provider at the same time, leveraging the advantages of each provider simultaneously. Benefits What is needed is an orchestration layer that remains constant while cloud services come and go; one that enterprises own along with their core apps.

Challenge It is not uncommon for SAP system copies, including any post-editing, to take several days to complete. Meanwhile, testing, development and training activities come to a standstill, and the large number of manual tasks in the entire process ties up highly skilled SAP BASIS staff. Opportunity Enterprises are looking to automation as a way to accelerate SAP system copies and free up staff. However, this is only one part of the problem: What further complicates the system copy process is the need to safeguard sensitive data and manage huge data volumes while also ensuring that the data used in non-production systems adequately reflects the data in production systems so the quality of development, testing and training activities is not compromised. Benefits This white paper explains how a considerable portion of the SAP system copy process can be automated using the CA Automic Automated System Copy for SAP solution and SNP T-Bone, helping enterprises become more agile.

Accounts Payable is a fundamental activity for nearly all businesses. Pick any enterprise and you can bet there is an AP function at the heart of financial operations. The obligation to pay off short-term debt is one that every company must satisfy. But more than that, the process to do it must be efficient and productive. If you get behind on your obligations you risk missing important financial discounts, defaulting with creditors, and damaging your reputation with suppliers and stakeholders. CFOs face the challenges associated with Accounts Payable…and it’s easy to lose sleep. As other areas of business and commerce have become more and more paperless, the accounts payable process in most organizations remains mired in paper copies and manual workflow. The result is an often costly and people intensive process that leaves companies vulnerable to competitors and financial executives with a growing unease over the inherent inefficiencies.

Cisco has recently unveiled its new intent-based networking strategy, called "The Network. Intuitive." The goal of intent-based networking is to allow greater levels of automation, security integration, and centralized manageability within a software subscription orientation. Intent-based networking is underpinned by Software-Defined Access (SDA), Cisco's automation engine built upon the company's Digital Network Architecture (DNA), which automates network segmentation, policy enforcement, and troubleshooting. Other core components of the announcement include a refresh of Cisco Catalyst switches, a new licensing model for infrastructure, and an all-in-one management console called DNA Center.
